Virtual College Visits - A Positive Change in College Admissions

Although the past year has been one of many challenges and sorrows, it has also been a time for positive change in the world of higher education. I’ve already written about the many institutions that have gone test-optional during this time, and another silver lining is the opportunity for Virtual College Visits.

Since January 2021, I’ve listened to over 40 college admission representatives say definitively that their new way of communicating during this time has actually enhanced the way they connect to students and families, and they plan to continue with their offerings of virtual opportunities.  These include campus tours, information sessions, classroom visits, chats with current students and professors, interviews, and access to the financial aid office.

These virtual opportunities are less cost intensive for colleges, and, just as importantly, for the families of prospective students. Trying to squeeze in in-person visits to multiple colleges during a week of spring break or planning a family vacation around college visits is not always feasible nor budget-friendly. But, participating in virtual visits is an excellent way to connect with schools and get a feel for different campuses.

I encourage you to check out the admissions page on the website of the colleges you are interested in, and start making appointments to meet with folks who are enthusiastically happy to virtually meet you and help answer your questions.
